Yes, it certainly helped people feel closer in terms of common goals and shared values. Without such projects, among other types of activities, it would be more difficult for people who live rather apart, such as people from Sweden and Romania, to relate to each other. Once everyone has the occasion to get together, however, it becomes obvious how similar we are.
